"This rare and colorful card is one in a series of 48 Cards issued by the John H. Dockman & Sons Company of Baltimore M.D. entitled "Military Pictures" This series is designated as E5 in Burdick's American Card Catalogue. One card was inserted with their products which were Candy , Caramels , and Chewing Gum and "Novelty Specialties" . The cards mainly deal with what I believe to be countries involved in WW1. I have not been able to find a date of their issue in any reference guide I have. However World War One began in 1914 and ran till 1918. This series does not include any cards representing the American Military which only joined World War One in 1917 the year before it ended. So I believe that these cards were issued in the U.S. sometime between 1914 and 1917 before the United States Of America Joined the War Effort. Each card features a colorful portrait of some aspect of Military life at the time. The cards are scored near the bottom, and were intended to be bent back along that score line and used as stand up paper toys. Because of this finding these cards with their bottom tabs still attached is tough. Many kids would have folded them over and over again and most times when you find these cards the tabs have torn off at the score mark from years of use. The back of the list the different aspects of military life represented, and the countries represented, as well as indicating that the cards are made to stand upright by turning back the scored line at the base of the card."
