"The products of Chicago - and Brooklyn - based Shotwell Mfg. Co. are so rare that their actual contents have for many years defied collectors' efforts to precisely catalogue them. For the confirmed Shotwell titles, a few cards will surface here, a box will emerge there, but almost never does a display relic reach the market, and the company's intriguing "body of work" in the 1920s and early 1930s remains largely undefined to this day. Presented is one of the most visual Shotwell relics known to the hobby, in the form of a Shotwell's "Movie Stars" five-cent, 24-count box. Once holding candy bars ("With Pictures," meaning, "cards") the two-part, lidded container measures 8-1/2" x 8-1/2" x 3-1/2", indicating that its confections must have been substantial, indeed. This rarity features enticing blue-and-red graphics on each of the lid portion's exterior panels, and the design capitalizes on a "Star" theme with a photo of a Shotwell factory acting as a highlight."
