This fantastic set of PAPER TOYs (also referred to as a Paper Doll or Card ) was issued by the McLaughlin Coffee Company of the United States of America as an insert premium in their brands of McLaughlin's XXXX Coffee. Although no guide gives a specific year of issue it is generally assumed that these were issued in the late 1890's This series is not listed in the American Card Catalogue or any other guide that I am aware of.. The set is from a series die cut paper toys / dolls that depict different types of horse / animal drawn carriages. Each set consisted of 4 separate pieces that could be slotted together to depict the particular type of carriage. The backs of the cards feature advertising for McLauglin XXX coffee, and Instructions on how the set goes together. As you can imagine pieces are often missing or mixed up with other different sets. They also tended to have pieces torn off during play. The piece measures 5 inches by 4 1/2 inches approximately at its tallest and widest points.
