I will start at the beginning and work with you through all the steps to make it an enjoyable experience.
Like so many other website cemond card managers' (ccm for short) pages are divided in 5 sections
The navigation bar is available almost all the time, you will not see it on pages to be printed.
I'd like to say that you have to register to use the website but it is not true, you can search the database even though you are not registered, you will be able to print checklist and look at pictures of the cards but if you want to keep track of your collection then you need to register.
The link to register is on the navigation bar [Signup], I'm asking for very minimal information but you do need a valid email address to confirm your registration, don't worry I will not share it with anyone, I hate spam as much as you do.
Once you are registered (and you did confirm your registration) you need to log in, why? Because that's how the software recognize you and can save your preferences, add your cards to your inventory etc. which bring us to how you can add cards but before we do that we need to know how to find the cards in the database, see I don't want you to have to type every single title to add it to your inventory, I'll do that, what I want you to do is find the card, click on a button and voila! The card has been added to your inventory.
Type: Looking For:
Type include but are not limited to Non-Sport, Sports, Postcards etc. to avoid pulling thousands of sets to sift through (ok, I'm not to that point yet but I'm working on it) I had to divide the sets in categories (Type). There is no need to display all the baseball sets if all you want to see is Donruss's Baseball Gross Out, is there?
Once you select a type another dropdown box will appear with a list of sub-type for the type you selected if you which to filter your result some more.
The next field which is mandatory is the Looking For: are you looking for a card? Or a set? I don't think this one needs more explanation.
All the other fields are optional, the system is quite intuitive, for example if you searching for a card set but you are not sure about the title, by typing one or two words that you know are part of the title, the system will display all the sets with this/these words.
A search for the key word "sea" (without the quotation mark) would return this;
You can see that the sequence "sea" can be found somewhere in all the titles returned.
As for the Company name the system will display your options as you type the name.
Another thing to keep in mind is the system will use all the parameters you provided to filter the result, to get the highest possible number of return use the least amount of filter.
Ok, you did a search and now you have a list of potential candidate, if the set you are looking for is in the list click on the title.
Wow!! What happened there?
At the top of the page you have information about the set, title, company, year, card size, number of cards in the set, etc.
You will notice at the top in the middle beside Binder you have an input box and a button, we'll get to that latter on.
On the left side there is the checklist for this set, each title is a link to get more details on that card, including picture front and back if available.
The check mark under the camera icons (front and back) indicate if I have a picture of the card.
The main window shows pictures of the box and wrapper(s) if available as well as a bit of information about the set.
In the navbar under Tools there is a link "Printable checklist" click on that if you wish to print a checklist of this set, there is a box and a button to change the number of columns on display, this is to allow you to print the list as you prefer.
Later on you will see that we can do the same with the cards you own or the cards you are missing.
Before I get to far ahead lets go back to the Binder box, I keep all my cards in binders (regular 9 pockets sheet, 6 pockets etc.) many of these binders hold more than one set so to be able to keep track of where is the set I'm looking for, I numbered all my binders and I use the "Binder box" of my software to know where this set is located, to use the system it is very simple.
Next time you will look for this set in the database the number you saved in the box will be there, if you move the set to a different binder, enter the new number and click submit again.
Lets go back to the left column, what you see there is a list of all the cards in this set, find one you have and click on it, in the main window you will see a picture of the card (if available) and a series of button, some of them are under the label "Add this card to your:"
[Wanted List] [Trade List] [My Cards List] | [Add card premium]
Note: Add card premium will be reserved for the Premium Membership, it will allows to enter detailed information about the card, price paid, bought from, slabbed or not etc.
The box "I have:" shows how many of that card you own. The box "Page: Pocket:" is to help organise your cards on a 9 pockets page when the cards are unnumbered.
Sometimes you will see under the picture a magnifier icon, click on it to see a bigger image of the card.
By clicking on one of these button you will automatically add it to the appropriate list, you do not have to create a folder or a table or even a list prior of that, it is all done automatically.
Obviously it could be cumbersome to add each card individually, especially if you collect sport cards where some sets have over 600 cards, that's why there is a button
[Add multiple]
| Note: The box "Card value:$" will tell you the value of this card (if available). |
If you click on that button it will open another page in the main window, on that page you can add up to 5 examples of each cards in that set.
As you can see there is a series of radio button beside each title, they are numbered 1 to 5 so if you select #4 you will add 4 cards of this title to your inventory.
At the top of the table there is a radio button that allows you to select the whole column, so if you have a complete set to add to your list, select all click submit and that's it your done.
A little tip:If you have a set where you have more than 50% of the cards, it would be quicker to select all and then remove the one you don't have before clicking submit, to do that select the radio button in the red box beside the title you want the card remove from the list.
Lets go back to the card details page for a minute, there is 2 more buttons on that page:
[Who has it] [Who want it]
They are for trading purposes, we will get into that later on.
Ok, you added a couple sets, now what?
You want to manage your collection, that's why it's called card manager isn't it?
Go to "My Account", if you are not logged in you will not see the link but if you are the link will be in the Navigation Bar. There is a lot of stuff on that page, your personal info, mailbox, preference etc., at the bottom of the page there is a table that list the sets you have registered so far, you will see Title, Company, Year and 2 icons, the table headers are link that will allow you to sort the table according to the header you clicked on, clicking on Company header for instance will sort the list by listing all the set by company in alphabetical order.
Click on it to see a printable list of the cards you own for that set, it is the same view as the "Printable checklist" we have seen before, except this time it shows the cards you have, you may notice at the bottom there is a link "Missing Cards" click on it to see a list of the cards you are missing to complete your set, you can also select and add the card(s) to your want list.
Stylized M:
This is where you move your cards around, the table has 6 columns
#, Title, Owned, Wanted, Trade, Delete
There is a few things to know about this table;
This table will not show the whole card list of the set, it will show only the cards you took action with, either you put it in the owned, trade or wanted list it will show up.
The total of any specific card you own can be found by adding the Owned column with the Trade column.
Example:
You have 3 cards of "The Titanic Disaster, 1912".
What do you need to do to manage this card, few rules
Back to our example where we have 3 cards of The Titanic Disaster, 1912, 1 in the Owned column and 2 in the Trade column.
The system will let you delete only 1 card, if you want to delete all 3 of them you will have first to move the 2 in the Trade column back into the Owned column.
This is done like that so you don't offer card for trade that you do not have anymore, ok not really, it was just easier to program it this way.
This should be enough to get you started, as usual if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
If you are looking for a set that is not in the database yet let me know and I will add it.
Thanks
